Office Update

To our dental family,

First of all, we just want to thank you for your endless support, kind words and generosity over the past 2 months. Whether you purchased one of our Dodds Dental Care Packs to support unemployed team members, shared sentiments over email or social media, or took the time to ask us how we’re doing when we called to reschedule your appointment, we can’t thank you enough.  This has been an extremely challenging time for the entire Dodds Dental team, as we have been limited to treating life threatening emergencies and engaging in virtual consults. It’s hard to believe it’s been 2 months since our doors were open.

As you may or may not know, the LA County Department of Public Health and the California Dental Association (CDA) have given dentists the “yellow light” to resume urgent, postponed and non-aerosol producing preventive dental procedures. We have spent 2 months preparing for this. The Drs. Dodds have spent countless hours on webinars and calls, doing research, and consulting with colleagues and industry experts in order to create the Dodds Dental reopening plan. We want you to know that we are proceeding very cautiously and are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our team and patients. We appreciate your patience as we spend extra time developing new protocols and procedures, acquiring proper PPE (personal protective equipment), and providing additional training for our staff.

Starting May 18th, 2020 we will begin seeing patients with urgent needs that were deemed non-life-threatening over the past 2 months. The following week, we will continue seeing urgent patients and slowly start to introduce hygiene appointments to include dental cleanings without producing aerosols, x-rays, and exams. By June 1, we will be adding more hygiene appointments and continuing with postponed and urgent care. For the hundreds of patients we have had to reschedule over the last 2 months, we will be opening additional Fridays and adding extra cleaning appointments on select days in June and July.

The following list is a condensed version of our updated safety protocols:

  • Staff will be screened on a daily basis upon arriving at work, using the CDA screening template.
  • Patients will be pre-screened prior to your appointments (please follow the directions in your reminder texts/emails).
  • When you arrive for your appointment, please text or call us from your car to check in. Once your room is ready, our team will call you. You will be screened again over the phone.
  • We ask that you bring and wear your own mask into the office. If you do not have one, a mask will be provided to you. Please do not bring anyone to your appointment with you, unless absolutely necessary.
  • Upon entry to the office, a team member will take your temperature and complete a screening if we were unable to do so over the phone. You will also be asked to perform hand hygiene (hand sanitizer or soap/water).
  • Appointment times will be staggered to reduce patient interaction. We thank you ahead of time for your flexibility in moving your already scheduled appointments by 10-20 minutes in order to achieve this.
  • Common surfaces will be wiped hourly, at the very least. Magazines, books, toys, coffee, water, and chapstick have been removed from the reception area. Water, coffee and chapstick are still available upon request.
  • We ask that you let one of our team members retrieve a toy from our treasure chest for your child.
  • Disinfection and sterilization of equipment and rooms is and always has been CDC compliant. As you may have noticed, our recent remodel included a brand new sterilization center. We are happy to show it off at your appointment.
  • Medify air purifiers with medical grade H13 filters have been placed at both ends of our hallway, circulating the air and removing 99.97% of particles.
  • We will ask every patient to rinse with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash prior to every appointment. Research has shown this to be particularly effective against coronavirus.
  • We will avoid aerosol whenever possible, or minimize it with special equipment in emergency or urgent situations.
  • Our PPE looks a lot different now! We have N95 and level 3 surgical masks available for every team member providing treatment. We will be wearing protective eyewear, face shields and of course gloves. In accordance with our efforts to be environmentally friendly, we will be utilizing reusable gowns that are changed between every patient and laundered at a medical linen facility. Designated shoes, shoe covers and head covers will also be worn, depending on the procedure.

Yes, this is our condensed list of safety protocols and procedures. We are happy to discuss these protocols in more detail and answer any questions you may have. We know there is a lot of uncertainty right now but we have worked tirelessly to make sure you feel safe and comfortable returning to our office. Thank you again, for your unwavering support of our family owned small business. We feel it is a great honor to take care of this community and we are so excited to continue to provide exceptional dental care in a personalized, comfortable and safe environment. See you soon!

Keep smiling, Drs. Emily & Dustin Dodds and the Team @ Dodds Dental
